A declaration of Canadian economic independence

The Beaver Manifesto

We believe in Canada, Canadian business and the radical proposition that Canadians should know where their money goes.

We believe Canadian Beaver deserves recognition, local Beaver deserves consideration, and Canadian dollars should have the opportunity to circulate among Canadians before fleeing across an international border.

We believe the maple leaf should mean something. We also believe the principles of buying Canadian should not mysteriously disappear because everyone has become uncomfortable discussing the product.

We believe Canadian adult businesses are businesses. They employ people, create technology, manufacture products, sell services, hire suppliers and participate in the Canadian economy whether Parliament has gotten around to issuing a commemorative stamp or not.

We believe some supply chains are better kept short. We believe tariffs are deeply unsexy, foreign exchange fees are worse, and very few evenings have been improved by additional customs paperwork.

We believe Canada has spent centuries exporting timber, minerals, energy and talent to the world. We are delighted that the world appreciates Canadian products. Occasionally, however, Canadians should get first crack.

We believe adults can make their own choices. We believe the country is large enough for conventional businesses and unconventional businesses, conventional relationships and unconventional relationships, and at least one website prepared to discuss all of this with the seriousness normally reserved for softwood lumber negotiations.

We believe the Beaver has been part of Canada’s economic story since before Confederation. We are simply updating the business model.
